Park of the month fun at Cleland Conservation Park

Date posted: 04 April 2018

See elusive nocturnal animals, join a ranger on a guided walk to Mount Lofty, try mountain biking or even trail running, or hike the Heysen Trail in Cleland Conservation Park this April.

The conservation park will be hosting a range of great activities throughout April as part of National Parks South Australia’s Park of the Month series.

Natural Resources Adelaide and Mount Lofty Ranges Ranger in Charge Jen Pitman said the park was one of Adelaide’s perennial favourites, being home to Waterfall Gully, Cleland Wildlife Park and Mount Lofty Summit.

“Cleland Conservation Park has a wonderful network of walking and cycling trails, letting you enjoy native wildlife, waterfalls, spectacular views of the hills and beyond, and unique cultural heritage,” she said.

“The walk from Waterfall Gully to Mount Lofty Summit is one of the most popular in the Adelaide Hills, with the trail attracting about 500,000 walkers a year.

“At the moment, the trail is only open on weekends, as we are doing works to repair damage from the 2016 storms, but there are alternative routes in place for weekdays.

“The conservation park is a great place for birdwatching, with species ranging from yellow-tailed black cockatoos and sacred kingfishers to superb fairy wrens and eastern spinebills.

“And of course Cleland Wildlife Park is one of Adelaide’s must-visit destinations, where you can get up close and personal with beautiful native animals like koalas, kangaroos, wallabies, wombats and Tasmanian devils.”

Park of the Month is designed to give people of all ages a taste of the activities on offer in South Australia’s parks and reserves.
