Prescribed burn at Kellidie Bay Conservation Park

Date posted: 24 Nov. 2020

A prescribed burn is planned at Kellidie Bay Conservation Park, east of Coffin Bay, on Wednesday, 25 November, weather conditions permitting.

  • The prescribed burn will start at 9:30 am and is likely to be completed by 8 pm.
  • The area to be burnt is 46.1 hectares.
  • The burn is planned to create a fuel-reduced buffer to the east of Coffin Bay in order to prevent the spread of bushfire.
  • Some smoke and fire activity may be observed in the days following the burn but the area will be patrolled until it is safe.
  • Speeds will be reduced on Coffin Bay Road, which might be closed for short periods during the operation. The Lookout Road will also be closed.
  • All walking trails in the park will be closed for the duration of the operation.
  • Coffin Bay Road might be affected by smoke during the burn.

The burn will be conducted by the Department for Environment and Water with the CFS.

National Parks and Wildlife Service SA’s statewide program of prescribed burns helps limit the spread and intensity of bushfires, protects communities and enhances biodiversity. Prescribed burning is just one tool used to reduce fuel loads across strategic areas of public and private land.

Prescribed burns will only be carried out when it is deemed safe to do so and may be cancelled at short notice.
