Date posted: 10 Jun. 2020

A prescribed burn is planned in over the next three days (Wednesday 10 to Friday 12 June) in Lake Frome Conservation Park, weather conditions permitting.

  • The prescribed burn will commence each day at 10:30am and should be completed by 7:00pm each night.
  • The burn will impact an estimated 157.2 hectares of land within the park.
  • The Southern Ports Highway and Southend access roads may be impacted by smoke at times. Signage will be placed warning motorists.
  • This is a fuel reduction, landscape protection burn with the added benefit of improving habitat for several threatened species.

The burn will be carried out by the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS). A crew will remain on site until it is safe to leave.

It is part of a statewide program of prescribed burning planned to protect communities and assets at risk.

Prescribed burns will only be carried out when it is deemed safe to do so and may be cancelled at short notice.
