The Board of the Botanic Gardens and State Herbarium (BGSH) Strategic Plan 2017-2022 sets the direction for Adelaide, Mount Lofty and Wittunga Botanic Gardens, the State Herbarium and the South Australian Seed Conservation Centre, and sets out a five-year commitment for developing our people and strengthening the organisation.
The Plan contains the Board's vision, mission and strategic focus, and it was developed following an extensive consultation process with the Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources, BGSH staff, Adelaide Botanic Garden Foundation, Friends of the Botanic Gardens of Adelaide and key external stakeholders.
The Board's vision is a community inspired to actively contribute to the sustainability of our world and its mission is to build an understanding and appreciation of the botanical world.
From 2017-2022 the the Board's overarching strategic focus will be to develop as a global destination and concentrate on three focus areas, which will guide our our efforts to realise a long term vision:
- Creating destination gardens
- Deepening our science
- Facilitating lifelong learning and engagement
A five-year business plan, reviewed annually, outlines the detailed activities and staged implementation of the main strategic activities and priorities outlined in the Strategic Plan.
The Plan was endorsed by the Board on 9 June 2017 and released to the public on 15 August 2017.
The Board also prepared a summary report on its Strategic Plan 2012- 2017, which can be viewed here.
