Prescribed burn at Heathfield

Date posted: 04 October 2017

A prescribed burn is planned at Heathfield in the Adelaide Hills for Wednesday, 4 October 2017, weather conditions permitting.

The prescribed burn will start at 11am and should be complete by 6pm.

It will affect about 8 hectares covering three private properties and land owned by SA Water around the Heathfield Wastewater Treatment Plant, between Longwood and Brick Kiln roads at Heathfield.

A significant smoke column will be produced during this burn. This is normal for burns of this size.

Smoke may affect Longwood and Brick Kiln roads, and speeds will be reduced to 25 km/hr during the burn.

The burn will be carried out by the Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources (DEWNR), SA Water and local CFS brigades on behalf of the Mount Lofty Fire Cooperative. Crews will patrol the site until it is safe to leave.

This burn aims to reduce the risk of bushfire impacting on dwellings along Longwood Road and Brick Kiln roads, the SA Water Treatment Plant, Heathfield High School and the Adelaide Hills Council Depot.

It is part of a statewide program of prescribed burning planned to protect communities and assets at risk.

Prescribed burns will only be carried out when it is deemed safe to do so and may be cancelled at short notice.
