Parks Closures

In view of the extreme fire risk and in the interest of public safety, Leanne Burch, A/Director of National Parks and Wildlife, has authorised the closure to the public all national parks and reserves in the Murraylands Region from:

Midnight, Thursday, 21 January 2010 until Midnight, Friday, 22 January 2010

All vehicle entry points to parks will be closed and the public are advised not to enter any of the parks via walking trails or any other means.

DEH apologises for any inconvenience caused.

Closure of Cape Torrens Wilderness Protection Area and Western River Wilderness Protection Area

Edward Gregory Leaman, Director of National Parks and Wildlife, has authorised the closure to the public the whole of Cape Torens Wilderness Protection Area and the whole of Western River Wilderness Protection Area from:

6.00 pm on Sunday, 21 February 2010 until 6.00 am on Saturday, 6 March 2010

The purpose of the closure is to ensure the safety of the public during an animal control and monitoring program within the reserve during the period indicated.

Brookfield Conservation Park

Leanne Burch, A/Director of National Parks and Wildlife, has authorised the closure to the public, the whole of Brookfield Conservation Park from:

6.00 pm on Sunday, 14 March 2010 until 6.00 am on Thursday, 18 March 2010

The purpose of the closure is to ensure the safety of the public during a pest control and monitoring program within the reserve during the period indicated.

Vulkathunha-Gammon Ranges National Park

Edward Gregory Leaman, Director of National Parks and Wildlife, has authorised the closure to the public the whole of Vulkathunha-Gammon Ranges National Park from:

6.00 am on Saturday, 6 March 2010 until 6.00 pm on Sunday, 7 March 2010

The purpose of the closure is to ensure the safety of the public during a pest control and monitoring program within the reserve during the period indicated.

Flinders Ranges National Park

Edward Gregory Leaman, Director of National Parks and Wildlife, has authorised the closure to the public the whole of Flinders Ranges National Park from:

6.00 am on Tuesday, 9 March 2010 until 6.00 am on Thursday, 11 March 2010

With the following exceptions:

  • Hawker to Blinman Road;
  • Hawker to Arkaroola (Wirrealpa) Road;
  • Sacred Canyon Road;
  • Brachina Gorge Road (open for through traffic only ? no stopping);
  • Dingley Dell Campground;
  • Wilpena Pound Resort and Campground
  • Wilpena Pound will be closed from 6.00 am Tuesday, 9 March 2010 until 6.00 am on Wednesday, 10 March 2010 only.

    The purpose of the closure is to ensure the safety of the public during a pest control and monitoring program within the reserve during the period indicated.

    Coffin Bay National Park

    Edward Gregory Leaman, Director of National Parks and Wildlife, has authorised the closure to the public part of Coffin Bay National Park from:

    6.00 pm on Sunday, 14 March 2010 until 1.00 pm Friday, 19 March 2010

    The closure applies to the area encompassing all of the park to the north and west of the Black Rocks Hike Carpark, including the Whidbey Wilderness Protection Zone. The remainder of the Park including the Black Springs Campground will remain open to the public during this period.

    The purpose of the closure is to ensure the safety of the public during an animal control and monitoring program within the reserve during the period indicated.

    Flinders Ranges National Park

    Edward Gregory Leaman, Director of National Parks and Wildlife, has authorised the closure to the public the whole of Flinders Ranges National Park from:

    6.00 am on Monday, 1 February 2010 until 6.00 pm on Friday, 5 February 2010

    With the following exceptions:

    The Dutchmans Stern Conservation Park

    Simpson Desert Regional Reserve and Simpson Desert Conservation Park

    Leanne Burch, A/Director of National Parks and Wildlife, has authorised the closure to the public the whole of the Simpson Desert Regional Reserve and the whole of the Simpson Desert Conservation Park from:

    6 pm on Monday, 30 November 2009 to 6 pm on Monday, 15 March 2010

    The purpose of the closure is in the interest of public safety as a result of anticipated high daytime temperatures likely to be experienced in the reserves during the closure period.

    Western River Wilderness Protection Area

    Leanne Burch, A/Director of National Parks and Wildlife, has authorised the closure to the public the following area of Western River Wilderness Protection Area from:

    6 pm on Sunday, 20 December 2009 until 6 am on Saturday, 26 June 2010

    South Eastern section closed within the following coordinates:

    Northern Boundary - 674850N 6046850E to 678300N 6046850E following a line defined by the Watters Boundary Track

    Eastern Boundary - 678300N 6046850E to 677900N 6043700E following a line defined by the Thistleton Boundary Track

    Southern Boundary - 677900N 6043700E to 674750N 6043850E following a line defined by the Southern Boundary Track

    Western Boundary - 674750N 6043850E to 674850N 6046850E following a line defined by the Forestry Boundary Track

    Northings and Eastings are in Universal Transverse Mercator Projection, Zone 53
    Datum: Geocentric Datum of Australia 1994

    The purpose of the closure is to ensure the safety of the public during an animal control and monitoring program within the reserve during the period indicated.

    Telowie Gorge CP and the Napperby Block of Mount Remarkable NP

    Edward Gregory Leaman, Director of National Parks and Wildlife, has authorised the closure to the public the whole of Telowie Gorge Conservation Park and the Napperby Block of Mount Remarkable National Park (Sec. 321, 322, 323, 325, 326, 327, 329 & 347 Hd of Napperby) from:

    6 am on Saturday, 26 December 2009 until 6 pm on Thursday, 31 December 2009

    The purpose of the closure is to ensure the safety of the public during a pest control and monitoring program within the reserve during the period indicated.

    Mount Brown Conservation Park

    Edward Gregory Leaman, Director of National Parks and Wildlife, has authorised the closure to the public the whole of Mount Brown Conservation Park from:

    6 am on Saturday, 23 January 2010 until 6 pm on Tuesday, 26 January 2010

    The purpose of the closure is to ensure the safety of the public during a pest control and monitoring program within the reserve during the period indicated.

    Coorong National Park - Younghusband Peninsula

    Edward Gregory Leaman, Director of National Parks and Wildlife, has authorised the closure to the public, the following section of Coorong National Park - Younghusband Peninsula contained within and bounded by lines traversing the Peninsula from east to west at approximately 3.5 km north of 42 Mile Crossing and a line approximately 7 km south of Tea Tree Crossing from:

    6 am on Friday 8 May 2009 until further notice

    The purpose of the closure is to ensure the safety of the public following recent weather events.

    Vulkathunha-Gammon Ranges National Park and Witjira National Park

    Edward Gregory Leaman, Director of National Parks and Wildlife, and an authorised delegate of the co-management boards of both Vulkathunha-Gammon Ranges National Park and Witjira National Park, has imposed fire restrictions for National Parks and Wildlife Reserves and Wilderness Protection Areas as outlined in the attached document.

    Please note that a number of these restrictions came into force on Saturday 1 November 2008.
