Northern and Yorke Region

The Northern and Yorke Region comprises 22 conservation parks and 2 national parks, Innes (9,000 ha) and Mount Remarkable(16,000 ha). The 22 conservation parks are spread throughout the region and vary in size. The most significant of these is Warrenben (4,061 ha).

The region comprises several areas of significance - Spring Gully Conservation

Park (399 ha) which protects an area of rare Red Stringybark Eucalyptus macrorhyncha, Mokota Conservation Park, a recently proclaimed area of native grasslands and Heritage listed Martindale Hall. Flora and fauna feature prominently in Innes National Park which is frequented by up to 80 species of birds, Western Grey Kangaroos and emus.

Extensive tracts of mallee bush, rugged limestone cliffs, secluded beaches, bays and salt lakes constitute Innes National Park's main geological features.

The island conservation parks comprise mainly of rocky outcrops and are important bird breeding grounds, the exception being Troubridge Island which is a sand island situated off the east coast of the Peninsula.

Biodiversity Conservation Programs

As part of our commitment to protecting the environment of the Northern and Yorke Region, we run a number of programs designed to conserve biodiversity on both public and private lands.
