Belair Railway Station to Eagle on the Hill (6 hours 17.5 km one way)

This part of the trail has remnants of settlement that reflect the lifestyle and values of people from early times.

Beginning at historic Belair Railway Station, the trail takes you to the centre of South Australia's oldest national park at Belair. The trail follows the Workanda Creek to Echo Tunnel, then Wilyawa Track to Sheoak Road.

The trail descends steeply to Brownhill Creek Recreation Park then winds through Carrick Hill and Waite Conservation Reserve and onto the former Mt Barker Freeway to Cleland Conservation Park.

Features along the way include:

  • Belair National Park - Playford Lake, Old Government House, Echo Tunnel
  • Brownhill Creek Recreation Park - Historic manure pits
  • Brownhill Creek Caravan Park

Eagle on the Hill to Summertown (Cleland Conservation Park)
(3 hours 7 km one way)



This section of trail has rich heritage and compelling stories that communicate the interesting history that makes this area uniquely South Australian.

At Cleland Conservation Park the trail follows the Pioneer Women's Trail and Waterfall Gully Trail to Cleland Wildlife Park. It then follows the Heysen Trail along the Wine Shanty Track through Stringybark forest, and exits at Mt Lofty Summit Road. Summertown is only 1 km from the trail.

Features along the way include:

  • Cleland Conservation Park - Pioneer Women's Trail, Chinaman's Hut, Waterfall Gully Trail
  • Mt Lofty Summit (about 2 km off the trail)
  • Cleland Wildlife Park - wildlife viewing

Summertown to Norton Summit
(3.5 hours 9 km one way)



This section of trail reveals a fertile land that has reliable rainfall and a cool climate, making it ideal for growing fresh clean produce for the city below.

The trail leaves Cleland Conservation Park and crosses Greenhill Road then winds its way to Horsnell Gully Conservation Park. The trail passes Giles ruins followed by a steep climb to Woods Hill Road and into Norton Summit.

Features along the way include:

  • Summertown (1 km off the trail)
  • Views to the city and Piccadilly Valley
  • Horsnell Gully Conservation Park - Giles ruins
  • Scenic Hotel at Norton Summit

 

Norton Summit to Morialta (Deep View Lookout)
(2.5 hours 7.5 km one way)



This section of trail features inaccessible gorges, escarpments and waterfalls, resulting in areas of eucalyptus forests remaining largely undisturbed.

The trail passes Morialta Barns and Morialta cottage before entering Morialta Conservation Park. It follows Fourth Creek and waterfalls to Deep View Lookout. From here the trail continues on or exits at Morialta.

Morialta to River Torrens
(5 hours 13 km one way)



This section of trail provides a walk through a thriving natural environment now protected from the spoils of vastly expanding suburban Adelaide.

The trail leaves Deep View Lookout and continues through Morialta Conservation Park to Montacute Road. Here it enters Black Hill Conservation Park where evidence of quarrying can be seen. It reaches the summit and continues along the Black Hill Track and Sugarloaves Trail. The trail ends at Ambers Gully, over the road from River Torrens Linear Park.

  • Black Hill Conservation Park - Magnificent views, wildflowers and diverse vegetation, Ambers ruins
