Park safety in hot weather

There is still plenty to enjoy in National Parks and reserves during hot weather but it’s important to plan ahead and be prepared.

Follow these tips on hot days:

  • Check park closures
  • Check the weather forecast
  • Consider visiting a coastal park where conditions will be more pleasant
  • If visiting a coastal park check tides
  • Check coastal park safety tips
  • Check for fire bans and warnings
  • Always take adequate water with you and stay hydrated
  • Be sun smart by wearing sunscreen, a hat, protective clothing and make the most of shady spots
  • Reptiles are more active during hot weather and love the sun so watch where you walk and sit
  • Wildlife can become lethargic in the heat – slow down and give animals time to move off paths, tracks and roads
  • No matter how fit you are, hot weather can be draining so avoid over exertion
