Shepherds Hill Recreation Park is Nature Play SA's Park of the Month for May. Check out what’s on at the park to celebrate.

What’s on

Ranger Guided Walk

Date: Saturday 20 May
Time: 12.00pm – 1.30pm
Where: Meet at Gate 1, Ayliffes Road Car Park

Take a walk with the Park Rangers amongst the majestic Grey Box and River Red Gum trees and learn about the animals that live in their hollows. Discover the parks riparian zone and learn about the current projects working towards restoring the biodiversity within the park.

This walk is suitable for families and children over 8 and requires moderate fitness levels.

What to bring:

  • Water
  • Sun cream
  • Long trousers and long sleeved top recommended
  • Hat/cap
  • Appropriate footwear

Ranger Guided Walk

Date: Saturday 20 May
Time: 3.30pm – 5.45pm
Where: Meet at Gate 1, Ayliffes Road Car Park 

Join the Rangers and discover the history of the park as the hike traverses along some of the boundary tracks. Learn about the restoration program of the threatened Grey Box Grassy Woodland ecosystem. Find out about some of the animals that call the park home. With a little luck we will take in the spectacular sunset over the Adelaide coastline and the city on top of Ridge Track. 

This walk is suitable for families and children over 12 and requires good/moderate fitness levels.

What to bring:

  • Water
  • Sun cream
  • Long trousers and long sleeved top recommended
  • Hat/cap
  • Appropriate footwear

Introduction to Night Mountain Biking

The nights are closing in but don’t let that stop you getting out on your mountain bike. Here's a great chance to come and experience mountain biking at night and learn how to make your rides safe and enjoyable this winter.

Who’s it for: Open to anyone 18 and over with a good level of fitness.

What to bring:

  • Mountain bike in good working order
  • Bike helmet and gloves
  • Bike backpack
  • Water
  • Appropriate footwear
  • Bike lights full charged
  • Small spare head torch

Core Skills Mountain Bike Course

Date: Saturday 6 May
Time: 10.00am – 3.00pm

Join Escapegoat on a core skill course that will focus on some of the most important skills you can ever learn. This begins with covering bike set-up, body position and stance on your bike, so you are totally comfortable on your bike before we start getting too technical. Techniques such as track stands, manuals and wheel lifts, and we will also go riding to attempt these skills ‘on the trail’.

Intermediate Mountain Bike Skills Course

Date: Saturday 27 May
Time: 10.00am – 3.00pm

Join Escapegoat for this course which aimed at those riders already competent in the core skills and are ready to take their riding to a new level.
