Heritage in your hands

The South Australian Heritage Council’s new thematic program, Heritage in your Hands, was launched by the Minister for Sustainability, Environment and Conservation, Hon Paul Caica MP, at the 2012 Heritage Heroes Awards ceremony on 24 May 2012.

The Council is seeking nominations from the community of places that should be recognised in the SA Heritage Register. These places need to be associated with a specific theme over the next three years.

The 2012 theme is A Migrant’s tale - celebrating the contribution of migrants to South Australian culture, society and economy.

This theme highlights that South Australia has been built and developed by waves of immigrants from the first landing to the present day. Individual immigrants and our migrant communities have made significant contributions to the vibrancy, strength and diversity of our state’s culture, society and economy. This is an opportunity to identify places that are associated with individuals or communities that tell us something about who we are now and to recognise how South Australia has been enriched by its migrant communities.

Heritage in your Hands aims to ensure that the places that are associated with these important stories are identified, celebrated and conserved for future generations.

The Council is seeking nominations for this year’s theme by 31 December 2012.
