Role and Goals
The Spatial Information Committee (SICOM) provides the major forum in South Australia for information exchange and discussion on all issues associated with spatial information. It currently has thirty four members representing State, Local and Commonwealth Government, industry and major education institutions. SICOM meets monthly to discuss technical issues and to exchange information on current spatial projects and new developments. Due to its wide membership, SICOM also plays an important role in formulating joint industry views for consideration by relevant organisations. SICOM plays a significant part in coordinating whole-of-Government and whole-of-State spatial initiatives. SICOM provides a key focal point for Government, industry and academic consultation on ongoing and proposed spatial projects. SICOM also provides a jurisdictional viewpoint to ANZLIC, which is the national peak body for the coordination of land and geographic information. SICOM has identified two goals in its Strategic Plan. These are:
Interaction with other Committees
ANZLIC is the peak national body responsible for the coordination of land and geographic information. A key concept of ANZLIC is that it works through its structure of coordinating bodies within each jurisdiction. When necessary, SICOM provides the South Australian consolidated view point to ANZLIC for consideration at the national level. The chair of SICOM is currently the South Australian representative on ANZLIC and this facilitates information transfer. Via this mechanism, ANZLIC activities are also easily promoted across a wide section of the spatial industry within South Australia. |
