Australian Spatial Data Directory
The Australian Spatial Data Directory provides links to the metadata records for many spatial datasets in all Australian jurisdictions including South Australia.
The ASDD is a national initiative supported by all governments under the auspices of ANZLIC - the Spatial Information Council. The ASDD aims to improve access to Australian spatial data for industry, government, education and the general community through effective documentation, advertisement and distribution.
The ASDD provides a simple method of searching, discovering and retrieving information (metadata, which is "data about data") about the spatial datasets that are maintained by each of the jurisdictions through the use of keywords. The ASDD may also be searched spatially by using a map interface or entering coordinates for a defined area.
Generally, for each spatial dataset documented, the following information is available:
- A description of the dataset
- Its currency
- Access conditions (how to obtain a copy)
- Who to contact to find out more about the dataset
- Quality or accuracy of the dataset
- Status of the dataset (its maintenance and update frequency).
Information is provided on a wide variety of spatial datasets that relate to many different topics including the marine and coastal environment, urban planning, pollution management, heritage, soil and land management, geology, vegetation, infrastructure and health.
The South Australian node of the ASDD is currently under review. The metadata records contained within the ASDD for South Australia may not be the most up to date records available. It is recommended that the alphabetical lists of spatial datasets and custodial agencies provided above are used to obtain the most current contact details.
