Visiting Goolwa State Heritage Area

| Interpretation Sign and Goolwa Wharf |
Goolwa, on the shores of Lake Alexandrina, was once a busy terminus
for the Murray River trade, and now contains an intriguing mix of
transport, commercial and residential heritage. It is a trade and
business centre for the surrounding district, but also one of South
Australia's most popular holiday and tourist destinations. The region
offers a range of accommodation options, including riverside shacks
and holiday homes, as well as visitor attractions, dining facilities
and interpretive programs.
The State Heritage Area includes a significant part of the town,
as well as the wharf area and railway station. Signal
Point Interpretive Centre provides a comprehensive introduction
to the region. A walking trail
leads visitors through the town, and other popular tourist attractions
include the paddle steamer Oscar
W and the Cockle
Train which steams between Goolwa and Victor Harbor.
