About Us

The Botanic Gardens of Adelaide is comprised of three botanic gardens and has served the community of South Australia for more than 140 years. The three botanic gardens, Adelaide, Mount Lofty and Wittunga provide visitors with an exceptional range of cultural, recreational, educational and scientific facilities which enhance people’s enjoyment and understanding of the plant world.

Over 1.5 million people visit these gardens each year including approximately 25,000 school students.

A historic garden within walking distance of the city centre featuring glorious green landscapes, avenues of mature trees, wisteria arbors, a Sacred Lotus pond, a unique Victorian Palm House which has recently been restored and the internationally acclaimed Bicentennial Conservatory for tropical plants.

Mount Lofty Botanic Garden

Access from Summit Road, Crafers and Lampert Road, Piccadilly.

A spectacular large hills garden on the eastern slopes of Mount Lofty featuring cool climate plants. Several walking trails reveal stunning massed displays of Magnolias, Rhododendrons, Camellias, Lilacs and the richest collection of ferns in Australia under a canopy of stringybarks. This garden displays collections from various geographic regions such as South America, China, East Africa, New Zealand, South East Asia and North America. Mt Lofty Botanic Garden is also home to the National Species Rose Collection and a Woodland Garden.

Australian and Southern African plants combine in this hills garden to provide seasonal colour and interest. There are brilliant displays of ericas in Spring, plants from Kangaroo Island and Fleurieu Peninsula, the Sand Plain garden featuring Western Australian wild flowers and shady lawns for lakeside picnics.
