School Holiday Program

September/October 2015

The Botanic Gardens of South Australia will run school holiday activities suitable for 5-12 year olds from 28 September to 9 October, 2015 - all based at Adelaide Botanic Garden. Activities are designed to promote fun, hands-on learning about plants, people and the environment. All children must be accompanied by a parent/caregiver at all times. Nature Dream Catchers (5–12yrs, 1 hr) $10

Using leaves, berries and other items found in the Gardens, you'll make a dream catcher to let the good dreams flow through and catch the bad dreams that will disappear with the light of day. Will be held in the Lecture Theatre of the Goodman Building. Bookings essential.

Nature Wind Chimes (5–12yrs, 1 hr) $10

Combine recycled materials with items like leaves and berries from the Gardens to make a wind chime to hang in your home. Will be held in the Lecture Theatre of the Goodman Building. Bookings essential.

Fresh & Fabulous Food (5–12yrs, 1.5 hrs) $20

Spin up a smoothie and slurp up a soup, creating healthy food in a fun and exciting way using fresh produce picked straight from the Garden. Will be held on the Little Sprouts Kitchen Garden Lawn - with some activities in the Lecture Theatre of the Goodman Building. Bookings essential.

Lucerne and Alfalfa (5–12yrs, 1 hr) $15

This year we've planted Lucerne at the City Crop site to replenish the soil. Hear about the importance of soil, Lucerne's agricultural use, and how Lucerne is eaten by people as alfalfa! Plant some alfalfa of your own to take home. Will be held on the lawn next to the City Crop - if it's raining it will be held in the Lecture Theatre of the Goodman Building. Bookings essential.

Making Fire, Making Glue (1 hr) FREE

Learn how Aboriginal people make fire using just what's around them in the Australian bush. Make your own glue from plants! Meet on the Schomburgk Pavilion - if it's raining it will be held in the Lecture Theatre of the Goodman Building. No bookings required.

Dreaming Story Telling (1 hr) FREE

Listen to Aboriginal Dreaming stories and understand what they can teach us about life. Learn how to identify tracks and traces in the environment. Meet at the Lecture Theatre of the Goodman Building. No bookings required.
