About Us

The Murraylands Region covers 4,120,000 ha and comprises of 35 parks and reserves covering 716,000 ha. The natural attributes of the region include a high diversity of habitats and species, extensive areas of mallee, arid zone chenopod shrublands, Murray River floodplain, valley and wetlands. The Department for Environment and Heritage (DEH) has staff located at Berri, Lameroo, Danggali Conservation Park and Hindmarsh Island working in the areas of biodiversity conservation, park management, fire management and crown land.

DEH is working hard within the Murraylands, along with many other environmental groups and the South Australian Murray-Darling Basin Natural Resource Management Board to protect the biodiversity that remains that is currently under threat.
