A recent initiative by the Department for Environment and Heritage
is the extension of the acclaimed Bounceback
Program (500KbPDF) to incorporate the
southern Flinders Ranges. Bounceback Southern Flinders is an ecological
restoration program that operates in the Flinders
Ranges and Vulkathunha-Gammon
Ranges National Parks and surrounding pastoral properties. The
primary focus of Bounceback is the promotion of ecosystem recovery,
by reducing the impacts of introduced plants and feral animals and
assisting the recovery of threatened species.
The southern Flinders Ranges contain the Northern and Yorke Region's
largest area of remnant vegetation, which includes examples of Eucalypt
forests, open mallee woodlands, shrublands and grasslands. The goal
of Bounceback Southern Flinders is to facilitate the rehabilitation
and conservation of the ecosystems of this unique area.
Although in its infancy, Bounceback Southern Flinders already incorporates
an extensive fox control program on Mt
Remarkable National Park with weed control strategies currently
being developed. Recovery programs are already in place for the
threatened species, including:
