About Us

The Department for Environment and Heritage plays a major role in conservation, protection and restoration of South Australia's natural environment, built heritage and cultural heritage. A key way in which the Department delivers these services is through its Regional Conservation Division. There are seven regions in the State, one of which is the Northern and Yorke Region.

Biodiversity Conservation Programs of the Northern and Yorke Region - Looking After Our Future

The Northern and Yorke Region covers 9,830,065 ha and incorporates the Mid North, Yorke Peninsula, the southern Flinders Ranges and the pastoral rangelands east to the New South Wales border. Staff of the Northern and Yorke Region manage twenty four parks; including Innes and Mount Remarkable National Parks, as well as assisting with biodiversity conservation on other crown lands and private lands. Management of the Northern and Yorke Region is guided by the Biodiversity Plan for the Northern Agricultural Districts of South Australia (1Mb PDF) and is undertaken in collaboration with the Northern and Yorke Natural Resources Management Board.
