Abstract

J.M. Black was a noted South Australian reporter and botanist. The diaries tell of his time as bank clerk in Scotland and England, his arrival in Australia in 1877, years as pioneer farmer, career as journalist with The Advertiser and The Register, and his retirement with his study of botany and the writing of The Flora of South Australia, one of the first floras of an Australian state.

Vol. 1: Diaries One to Four (1875–1886) with selected extracts from his “Memoires”. Vol. 2: Diaries Five to Eight (1887–1910). Vol. 3: Diaries Nine to Twelve (1911–1951).
