Graham is a botanist for the State Herbarium.

His primary research interest is in bryophytes, particularly morphology and taxonomy of mosses of arid environments. Graham's main group of interest is the moss family Pottiaceae, but he was also recently involved with taxonomy of Bartramia (Bartramiaceae).

Graham is also involved in the documentation of historical collections of the State Herbarium, as well as curatorial involvement with lichens, fungi, pteridophytes, Rutaceae and Iridaceae.
