Prescribed burn at Stipiturus Conservation Park

Date posted: 03 October 2017

A prescribed burn is planned at Stipiturus Conservation Park near Mount Compass for Wednesday, 4 October 2017, weather conditions permitting.
  • The prescribed burn will start at 5pm and should be complete by 8pm.
  • It will affect about 2 hectares in the western section of the reserve, north of Beare Lane Road, Mount Compass.
  • A significant smoke column will be produced during this burn. This is normal for burns of this size.
  • There will be no road or track closures.
The burn will be carried out by the Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources (DEWNR) and fire crews will remain on site until it is safe to leave.
This burn aims to establish a control line for a larger burn that will take place later this spring. The primary aim of the full burn is for ecological outcomes to benefit a range of endangered plants and animals.
Prescribed burns will only be carried out when it is deemed safe to do so and may be cancelled at short notice.
