Call for new NRM board members

Date posted: 03 October 2017

Natural resources management boards across the state are looking for new community board members committed to ensuring a resilient and healthy landscape for future generations.

South Australia has eight regional NRM boards, with up to nine community members on each one.  Applications for up to 25 board member positions are being sought across the eight NRM boards.

The NRM boards provide regional leadership in, and connect local communities to, the sustainable use and effective integrated management of natural resources at a regional level.

Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources A/Group Executive Director of Parks and Regions Caroline Croser-Barlow said board members had the chance to leave a lasting legacy.

“Without sustainable management practices, many industries and communities would not have a long-term future, so it’s vital we make good decisions now,” she said.

“Board members come from wide-ranging backgrounds with skills, knowledge and practical experience in areas such as community affairs, primary production, land management, and business or local government administration.

“Others have specific skills in biodiversity, conservation, water resources, soil conservation and knowledge of natural and social science or experience in the management of coasts, estuaries, marine areas and fisheries and aquaculture.

“Many also have urban or regional planning skills as well as a strong interest in Aboriginal heritage and land and water generally.

“If you have skills in any of these areas and you’d like to help make a difference in your community, then we would love to hear from you.”

Board members need to be available for between four and five days per month.

Women and Aboriginal people are encouraged to apply.

Applications close on Monday, 30 October 2017.

Appointments commence from April 2018 and may be for terms of up to four years.
