CLOSED: Wilpena Pound walking trails within Flinders Ranges National Park due to bushfire risk

Walking trails around Wilpena Pound, located within the Flinders Ranges National Park, have been closed today by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) due to the safety risk posed by a fire at Point Bonney.

The fire was today located approximately eight kilometres north of Rawnsley Park Station on the eastern edge of Wilpena Pound in the Flinders Ranges National Park.

Smoke from this fire was visible from the Hawker to Wilpena Road.

The South Australian Country Fire Service (CFS) stated the fire did not pose a threat to life or property.

The walking trails in the Wilpena Pound have been closed as a precaution and will remain closed until midnight Friday, January 27.

DENR and CFS crews are currently attending to the fire.
