Fire restrictions in SA parks and reserves
Date Posted: 20 October 2011The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) is advising people who visit parks and reserves that restrictions around the lighting of barbecues and fires start this week.
Restrictions apply to most South Australian National Parks and Wildlife Act Reserves and Wilderness Protection Areas and are in addition to the normal fire danger season restrictions announced by the Country Fire Service (CFS).
DENR public land and operational support director Grant Pelton said it is important that people who may wish to visit or travel through South Australia’s parks make themselves familiar with the restrictions, which are in effect in most reserves until April next year.
"These fire restrictions are essential for reducing the risk of fires starting in South Australia’s parks and reserves," Mr Pelton said.
"While DENR works in close partnership with the CFS and SA Water to reduce the impact of bushfires on public land, fire restrictions are put in place for the safety of everyone.
"I urge all members of the public to be vigilant about fire prevention and preparedness when camping and enjoying South Australia’s parks and reserves."
Some restrictions apply to reserves right throughout the year, while others only apply to the applicable fire danger season.
