Belair National Park transforms for three-day festival
Date Posted: 08 September 2011The inaugural Womad Earth Station festival being held at Belair National Park in October will showcase how South Australia’s national parks can be used in exciting new ways.
Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) District Ranger Kerri Villiers says DENR is proud to be sponsoring the three-day festival – from October 21 to 23 – as it provides an opportunity for people to discuss ideas and solutions for a more sustainable planet.
“It’s refreshing to see South Australia’s first national park showcased in a new light,” she says.
“A weekend of discussions, music, forums, displays and performances is a great way for DENR to engage with a new generation of park users.
“The festival’s focus on environmental education matches DENR’s vision for a sustainable and prosperous South Australia, where natural resources are used wisely and a healthy environment is seen as the basis of a good quality of life.”
DENR will present two sessions as part of the Market Place program at Womad Earth Station.
The Art of Nature Fashion Parade will showcase the winning designs from the 2011 Art of Nature T-shirt competition, as well as a discussion from Nick Savaidis of Etiko about what makes the t-shirts sustainable.
And ‘Secrets of a Sustainable Garden’ will provide expert tips and advice on how backyards can be a healthy and resilient landscape that is water-friendly and conserves biodiversity.
In addition, Cleland Wildlife Park will pay a special visit to Earth Station, giving audiences a unique and up-close Australian wildlife experience.
Only 20 minutes from Adelaide, Belair National Park is the perfect natural bushland escape.
