Heritage Advisory Service
The State Heritage Advisory Service provides free professional heritage and conservation advice to communities and individual heritage owners in South Australia. State Heritage Advisers supply the service and are experienced heritage architects funded by DENR.
See the list of councils with state heritage advisory services (136kb pdf).
If your local council does not have a State Heritage Adviser, DENR conservation architects offer free advice to owners of state heritage places on maintenance and repair work.
Assistance for State Heritage Place owners and managers
Heritage Advisers provide individual advice and assistance to owners of heritage places. They can help owners:
- plan repairs, maintenance, colour schemes and conservation work, and find suitably skilled contractors
- avoid potentially costly mistakes that compromise the heritage significance of their place and possibly its market value
- understand technical advice from contractors and tradespeople, particularly in cases of conflicting advice
- plan alterations, additions and renovations that are sympathetic to the heritage significance of their place
- reinstate missing elements such as fences, landscaping and other lost features and fittings that contribute to the heritage significance of their place.
DENR also produces publications containing practical conservation advice.
