How a place gets state heritage listed
Anyone can nominate a place in South Australia to be considered for state heritage listing. In order to determine if a place or item has state heritage significance, it will be assessed against certain criteria by the South Australian Heritage Council.
The South Australian Heritage Council and the state government manage the assessment and listing of state heritage places, while local government manages local heritage. Local and state heritage places are recorded in the South Australian Heritage Register.
