Friends and volunteers groups
There are Friends groups throughout South Australia. Most national parks have a group of friends passionate about their conservation and protection. Special interest groups also abound. They range in area of interest from butterflies to 4WD adventures; from the heritage and history of the Adelaide Gaol to walking the Heysen Trail. With so much to choose from you're bound to find something to occupy those spare hours!
Any of these groups will welcome your membership enquiry. Groups are open to people of any age, gender, nationality, occupation and natural ability. There is something for everybody and no special qualifications are required. Each friends group operates autonomously.
Activities include manual projects, fund-raising, working on heritage sites, educational and cultural events, wildlife projects, publications, information displays, social programs, meeting other people and having fun.
Volunteer Support Grants are available for Friends of Parks groups and volunteer groups to undertake small projects on national parks and reserves. Find out more about the grants.
The DEWNR Volunteer Support Unit (VSU) coordinates the administration of the Friends groups. Through the VSU, Friends have connections to like organisations throughout Australia and overseas. Make new friends. Help the parks. Restore our heritage. All are welcome.
