Heritage Agreement Grants Scheme
The Native Vegetation Council (NVC) are offering financial support to Heritage Agreement landholders that aim to conserve and manage native vegetation through the Heritage Agreement Grants scheme.
Heritage Agreements are conservation areas which have high biodiversity on private land. Heritage Agreements are contracts between the landholder and the Minister to conserve the native vegetation on their property, this contract is in perpetuity. Private individual landholders, local councils, companies, organisations and Societies own Heritage Agreements across the state.
The Heritage Agreement Grants Scheme is an opportunity for landholders looking for financial assistance to implement ecological on ground work projects that benefit the native vegetation in their Heritage Agreement areas and are encouraged to make a submission.
Since 1998 the Heritage Agreement Grants Scheme has supported over 800 projects across the state on private land. Over $1.25 million towards conservation management of the native vegetation on private lands has been spent in these high biodiversity areas. The grants funds have been supplemented with landholder contribution as in kind labour. The maximum is $2000 per year and $3500 for management plans.
Eligible projects include:
- weed control, mapping and/or identification
- fox, rabbit or other feral animal control
- repair of damaged areas (eg previously cleared or eroded sites)
- mapping of native plants or native vegetation communities
- native animal survey (permits needed)
- revegetation using seeds from the Heritage Agreement area or nearest appropriate site
- production of part or all of a management plan
- local/minor trials of good conservation management techniques.
Projects must directly benefit the Heritage Agreement area and are usually located within or adjacent to the Heritage Agreement area.
Applicants must contribute an amount approximately equal to the grant, for example, in labour, materials, equipment or funds.
