Natural Resources Management Council
Established in 2004, the Natural Resources Management (NRM) Council is appointed by the Governor on the nomination of the Minister for Environment and Conservation.
Tasked with providing advice on long term NRM strategy, the Council’s responsibilities include:
- providing advise to the Minister for Environment and Conservation on the management of natural resources in South Australia
- contributing to the implementation of the Natural Resources Management Act 2004.
- contributing to the preparation of the State NRM Plan
- working collaboratively to achieve the outcomes of the State NRM Plan
- assisting the regional NRM boards in the development of their regional NRM plans
- analysing the performance of the regional boards to monitor and evaluate the condition of natural resources across the state
- producing an annual report, incorporating the annual reports of each of the eight NRM boards
- working collaboratively with state and local government, industry, environmental and community groups and organisations.
The nine NRM Council members are appointed by the Governor for their extensive skills, knowledge and experience in natural resources management.

The NRM Council is supported by two specialised sub-committees:
- Aboriginal Statewide Advisory Committee - provides advice on Aboriginal engagement and investment in NRM regions
- NRM Council Assessment Sub-committee - provides advice on the content of regional NRM plans, investment strategies and the effectiveness of NRM processes.
