Natural Resources Management Levy
The Natural Resources Management (NRM) Levy consists of two types of levies:
- a land-based regional NRM levy that is paid by land-owners
- a NRM water levy paid by water licensees in prescribed water resource areas.
Everyone has an impact on the environment and your contribution through the NRM Levy helps fund the vital work needed to care for our natural resources.
The NRM Levy helps to fund vital environmental and conservation projects, which are set by regional NRM boards and outlined in their regional NRM plans.
If you are paying the land based NRM levy, it is commonly calculated on either on a fixed charge or on the value of rateable land. The basis of the levy is set by the regional NRM Board through its regional NRM plan and it is collected by the local council as part of your council rates.
The water based levy is collected by the Department for Water.
The NRM Boards reinvest all funds into projects within the region they are collected from, so your levy is contributing directly to the wellbeing of your local environment.
Find out more about the NRM levy in your area by contacting your regional NRM board.
