Funding
Management of natural resources in South Australia is funded by a variety of sources.
These include:
- Recurrent State Government funding and programs, including the State Natural Resources Management (NRM) Program
- Caring for our Country funding (Australian Government)
- Natural Resources Management (NRM) Levies.
These sources complement the significant private and industry investment in managing our natural resources.
The State NRM Program provides funding for programs and projects run by regional NRM boards, state NRM agencies and community and volunteer groups. All initiatives must contribute towards targets outlined in the state and regional NRM plans. There are two main streams that can be applied for:
- NRM Projects - available to regional NRM boards and state NRM agencies
- NRM Community Grants - available to volunteer and community groups.
Caring for our Country is the Australian Government's initiative to fund environmental management of our natural resources. It funds projects across the country to achieve national targets that improve biodiversity and sustainable farm practices. The funding supports regional NRM groups, local, state and territory governments, Indigenous groups, industry bodies, land managers, farmers, Landcare groups and communities.
The Natural Resources Management (NRM) levy consists of two types of levies: a land-based regional NRM levy paid by land-owners and an NRM water levy paid by water licensees in prescribed water resource areas. Levies collected in each region are invested within that region according to the priorities set out in each region's NRM Plan.
