Conservation

Our responsibilities extend across environment policy, biodiversity conservation and heritage conservation. We gather and maintain knowledge about the state's environment. We manage South Australia's extensive public lands, including national parks, reserves and Crown land.

We deliver conservation and fire management programs state-wide, and oversee the management of the Coorong, Lower Lakes and Murray Mouth program.

DENR is part of the Environment and Conservation Portfolio and reports to the Minister for Environment and Conservation. We deliver the government's environment agenda both directly and through partnerships.

Our conservation activities sit under several programs:

Nature conservation

Protecting, maintaining, improving and restoring biodiversity through conservation policy and programs with industry, government and community.

Coast and marine conservation

Conserving, protecting and encouraging sustainable productivity of South Australia's coastal, estuarine and marine environments.

Public land fire management program

Undertaking fire management activities, like prescribed burning and fire track maintenance, to reduce fuel hazards in strategic areas of our state's parks and reserves.

Public land - stewardship

Managing South Australia's diverse system of of public land.

Lower Lakes, Coorong and Murray Mouth Program

Securing the long-term future of the Coorong, Lower Lakes and Murray Mouth as a healthy, productive and resilient wetland system that maintains its international importance.
